Meet the Staff
Kathryn
Ashera Sprowls – Camp Director
Kathryn is inspired by children, spirit and creative expression. An educator,
she seeks to awaken the capacity for unity, peace and beauty. Kathryn
is a long-time student of many mystical paths, a Mentor Teacher of the
Dances of Universal Peace, a minister of the Universal Worship, an author,
mother, and lifelong dancer. She is currently the Director of Youth &
Family Ministry at a thriving Unity church in Oakton, Virginia and offers
trainings in spirited creative expression. Kathryn compiled "I Open
My Eyes To You" and is focusing the upcoming sequel, "All My
Relations". She has worked extensively with young children, music
and movement, and as a childcare specialist assisting caretakers of young
children. Kathryn lives and dances in the Washington, D.C. Area. Contact

Jeanne
Ayesha Lauenborg – Core Facilitator & Co-Coordinator of Dance
Leadership Training
Ayesha is an interfaith minister/musician and a Senior Mentor Teacher
in the International Network for the Dances of Universal Peace. Known
and loved for her warmth, wit and wisdom, Ayesha serves as a guide to
the depths of the human heart through the path of love, harmony and beauty.
Her intergenerational circles often include her daughter, Sara. She has
danced and taught the Dances of Universal Peace throughout Europe, Canada
and the U.S. since 1973. She currently resides in the Philadelphia area.

Safiya
Susan Slack, Senior Mentor, Core Facilitator, Drummer, Storyteller
Safiya is the author of, "Come Join the Circle: Singing and Dancing
for Early Childhood Education". It is a how and why handbook for
adults who wish to lead the Dances in schools, libraries, daycares and
many other public and private settings. She is the founder of Reading
Rhythm, a Professional Development program that teaches teachers how to
lead the Dances in their classrooms and offers a community college course
to day care providers on circle dancing. Safiya has been dancing for over
30 ears, in tandem with a performing arts career in theater, music and
dance. She has published three recordings of original music and the "Drum
Instruction for Beginners" cassette for Peaceworks. Contact Safiya

Halima
and Abraham Sussman
Halima and Abraham both carry a direct transmission of the Dances of Universal
Peace from Murshid Samuel Lewis. They hold regular classes and retreats
at SAMA in Cambridge, MA and teach throughout New England and beyond!

Both mentor in the DUP lineage, and are teachers in the Sufi Ruhaniat.
They love music, gardening, life, and walk the path of love, harmony
and beauty. This has yielded four creative sons who range in age from
22 to 31, 5 beautiful listening Cds of devotional music, professional
careers as psychotherapists, and a growing extended spiritual family.
Tajali
Theresa Tolan Co-Coordinator of the Children’ Program, Facilitator
of Spiritual Parenting Circles and Family Counselor
Tajali conducts numerous children’s and family camps and programs,
into which she integrates Nurturing Spirituality in Children and Spiritual
Parenting principles. Tajali is a mother of two children, 23 and 7. She
is a Marriage and Family therapist by profession, as well as an artist.
She paints watercolors and has done community and family art projects
periodically for many years. Theresa and her husband Dan Gallagher are
leaders of the Dances of Universal Peace and are committed to building
peace in the world through arts, family and community connections. Currently
she leads family Universal Worships and coordinates the Children’s
Global Peace Project, a program to integrate peace, creative arts, literacy,
and global connections for elementary school children around the world.

Sandra Kammann, Co-Coordinator of the Children’ Program,
Leader of Early Morning Chi lel Sessions, Creative Movement Specialist
Sandra has been a choreographer and teacher of children’s dance
for over 20 years, including as an artist-in-residence for the Kennedy
Center, and several Montessori schools. She leads the Sacred Dance group
at a Unitarian Church in Arlington, Virginia. She has a Masters in Anthropology,
specializing in performance arts and Greek culture. Contact Sandra at

Kirsten Baucom, Afternoon Children's Program Kirsten
is a music education teacher specializing in composition, piano
and voice. She has been a student of the Dances for many
years. She is pursuing her music therapy degree. Kirsten
is very enthusiastic about world music and culture, nature,

Linda Solomon, (Children’s) Art Studio
Linda is an internationally recognized artist whose oil and watercolor
paintings grace many exhibits and homes. Linda is an educator who has
worked in elementary public art settings for over 20 years. Linda brings

Gauri (Jo Ann) Johnson, Bookstore Manager & Textile Artist
Gauri is an energetic, fun-loving mother and CPA. She loves singing, dancing,

Jacob Williamson, Teen Counselor, Jazz Guitarist and Multi-instrumentalist
Jacob is a talented musician who has this to say about himself: "Hello
All! I am thrilled to come back to play, explore and experience with you.
I have been traveling around the country, making music (and learning new
instruments!), practicing concious flower art and creating peace and beauty
whenever possible. Its very exciting to be going back to the Creative

Stewart Shemsuddin Millard, Camp Musician, Open-Tune Guitar Instructor
Stewart brings the camp his warmth, devotion and exquisite attunement
and a seasoned perspective from years of participation in the Charlottesville
Dance Camp community. Stewart is a master of open-tuned guitar,
and may be willing to mentor a few guitar students. We look forward

Keith Mitchum, Teen Counselor, Ritual Artist
Keith will join us from Kentucky, bringing his loving spirit, colorful
collection of sacred ritual elements, and his depth of experience with
teens. Keith is a lover of many mystical paths, and conducts ‘Mystery
School’ weekend retreats with high school teens in the Unity movement.
He is also Director of Operations at Unity of Louisville, Kentucky. We

Dan Gallagher, Camp Registrar
Dan will offer his special gift of making all the details come together
in the right way at the right time! Dan sees infinity in a grain of sand
and wonderful possibilities in a folded canopy. In addition to some fine
guitaring on the side, he will channel our creative contributions like
a fine conductor, creating a symphony of love, harmony and beauty! His

Bill Jenkins, World musician
Bill presents workshops on the joy of exploring multicultural music at
D.C. area schools, festivals and museums. He has collaborated with the
Smithsonian in gathering cultural instruments and presenting workshops.
Bill is also a member of the Rhythm Workers, a group whose drumming supports
many D.C. area gatherings. Bill will be with us for two days accompanying
the dances on diverse instruments and presenting hands-on afternoon workshops.
