THE TEEN HEART AGREEMENTS
These agreements are something we’ll be going over in our first
two sessions, and whenever we need a reminder. Hopefully, these agreements
will keep everything sailing smoothly for us all week!
- Be present at group times - we are each an important part
of the experience!
- When there are choices of what to do (afternoon/late evening), keep
counselors (or parents/guardians) fully informed of where you are
- Keep an open mind and try giving everything your best shot (some
things may seem unusual at first!)
- Be open to reaching deep, stretching wide and letting your most authentic
self come through.
- Share your truth. Let us know how you're doing! If you need space/rest/or
whatever, let us know and we'll help you get what you need.
- Try to live in the rhythm of the camp so that you get the most out
of it. This means sleeping by 11:30 pm most nights, so we can begin
again in the morning with breakfast at 8:30, and our group time at 10:00/10:30)
- Natural highs only! (such as from breathing fresh air, dancing, laughing)
- Respectfully support and listen to everyone
- Keep each other's sharings confidential (What's said in the group
stays in the group!)
- Stay safe! Make wise choices! For instance, if you're not with the
group, 'travel' with a buddy at night, near water, etc.
- Be aware of wildlife - there are snapping turtles in the pond, deer
ticks in the long grass, lots of poison ivy in the woods, hungry mosquitos
at dusk, etc. Check your body for deer ticks daily. If you're heading
outdoors, use sunscreen and herbal bug repellant!
- Respect the integrity of other camp participants - be especially
aware of noise at night
- Respect everyone's property - help take good care of what we have
here
- Help create friendship with everyone
- Save expressions of romantic affection for another week!
Also, we’re all going to pitch in with the smooth sailing of the
camp by washing our own individual dishes after each meal and generally
picking up after ourselves. In addition, we’ll do some kind of creative
service together, like babysitting one evening, or setting up the bonfire!
Of course, we’re also going to create some beautiful art and magnificent
music, and that’s kind of a contribution too, right?
WHAT TO BRING
- See the all-camp ‘What to Bring”
list!
- Plus, just for teens, bring the following!
- sleeping bag for sleeping out one night in the Octagon
(If you’re traveling by plane, we’ll have some extras on
hand)
If you have prescription or over-the-counter medications you need to
take, you can "check these in" with your counselors so that
they can remind you to take them. We have a camp doctor.
HEADS UP - YOUNG ADULT SCHOLARSHIPS!
The Sufi Ruhaniat International (SRI) offers scholarships to young adults
(ages 16 – 29) to attend camps that feature the Dances of Universal
Peace and/or Sufi teachings. SRI is the organization that formed around
Samuel L. Lewis, “Sufi Sam”, who started the Dances of Universal
Peace in the 1960’s. “Sam” taught in the lineage of
the Universal Inayati/Chisti Sufi tradition, but he also was also a proponent
of global consciousness, sharing the attunement and teachings of many
world traditions (as reflected in the Dances). Please speak to how this
approach resonates with your own personal philosophy and your desire to
learn more. To apply, send an email detailing the camp you wish to attend,
the costs (include travel, tuition, room & board), how much you are
able to contribute, and the amount needed to make this work financially.
Send the email to: SRIyouth@earthlink.net
We recommend taking care of this as far in advance as possible –
ideally six to twelve weeks or longer before the camp, so that you can
plan based on the result. Please let our registrar for Peace Camp know
you are applying and awaiting news from SRI, by May 9th, 2007, so that
we can ‘register’ you at the early, discounted rate. You can
contact our registrar, Dan, at dan_with_plan@yahoo.com.
