Creative Arts for Peace Camp 2007

Creative Arts for Peace Camp
Song of Creation!

July 9 - 15, 2007
at Claymont near Charles Town, West Virginia

"Come join the dance of life..."
— Sam Lewis

Come be a member of our miniature global peace village! Playful spirits of all ages will have an opportunity to eat, dance, pray and play together. Dance leaders, educators, parents, artists and religious education instructors, and children of all ages are welcome. Teens and tweens have their own full-fledged empowerment program. Tiny ones will be part of a parent’s coop lovingly encircled by the family clan. CAP will be a playful exploration of the Dances of Universal Peace, storytelling, music, ritual, poetry, movement improvisation, visual and tactile arts, and community celebration. Periods of inspired reflection and inner beauty will be incorporated into our colorful tapestry.

We have reserved a wonderful site, Claymont, which is 50 minutes from the Capital (Washington, D.C.) Beltway and the Dulles International Airport. Shuttles will be accomodating our many traveling guests. Claymont is a wooded 355 acre community in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of West Virginia just minutes from the river. Dedicated to conscious living, it incorporates organic gardens, multiple classrooms, an octagonal dance space with a wood floor, a children’s school, art studio, open and wooded spaces, fire circles, walking paths, and sacred spots. Its historic mansion and exceptional grounds make it a true treasure! The Great Barn and multiple camping locations give us the flexibility to accommodate up to 120 people. Most locations are air-conditioned. Read more about it at www.claymont.org.

Going to Peace Camp

Tap into the living stream of inspiration, the cosmic muse, with us! ‘Song of Creation’ will delve into the mystery of creation, exploring our individual creativity, creation stories from many cultures, and the expression of spirit through sound and song, drumming and expressive movement, as well as other sacred arts. We will enact a theatrical Cosmic Creation experience on our final morning together. Daily clan activities will deepen our connections and community.

All participants will give two hours of creative service to the camp in a variety of ways.

Some scholarship opportunities available. Just ask!

Evenings feature the Dances of Universal Peace, drumming, performances, bonfires, the ever-popular story circle for all ages, Friday’s sacred evening for which we wear all-white, and Saturday evening’s transformational Talent Sharing. Late evenings provide choices of continuing Deep Dancing, improvisational music jams, and conversation in our Bookstore/Bazaar/Coffee House.
